Moon Sighting
During the 92 Conference of Rulers on 15 & 16 March 1972, the Rulers have agreed to standardise the start of Ramadan, Eidal-Fitri and Eidal-Adha for the whole of Malaysia.
“The first official early moon observation, to set the start of fasting for the whole of Malaysia was made on Sha’ban 1392 equivalent 7 October 1972.”
Starting then, declaration of the beginning for Ramadan, Hari Raya Puasa and Hari Raya Haji are performed by the Keeper of the Rulers’ Seal through Radio and Television after assented to by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and His Majesty the Kings.
Our achievement
WORLD RECORD
On 5 May 2019, Telok Kemang Observatory managed to capture the image of the youngest hilal during the hilal Ramadhan 1440H observation.The image then has been listed in the World Record Crescent Observation by International Astronomical Center under the category Ordinary Imaging as hilal with the youngest age and smallest elongation from Sun.
